Report finds that firms are looking to take on staff in areas targeting growth, including sales.UK businesses are looking to expand their operations in areas that could help them achieve growth as the economy recovers, such as sales.
That is according to a new report from the Confederation of British Industry and Harvey Nash called Gearing up for Growth.
It found that nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of firms are planning targeted recruitment in areas including sales, management and technical.
Meanwhile 21 per cent plan to add staff in some parts of the business and reduce numbers elsewhere.
Albert Ellis, chief executive of Harvey Nash, commented: "While business confidence in the sustainability of the recovery remains fragile, employers will not be recruiting on a broad scale.
"However, many organisations are taking a targeted approach to hiring talent to support their growth strategy, and exploit opportunities where market conditions are supportive."
But despite a rise in recruitment and a thaw in pay freezes, many employees are still concerned about staff morale, with just a 38 per cent of firms reporting high levels.
The report follows recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showing that unemployment fell 0.1 per cent to 7.7 per cent in the three months to August this year.
